Today third-party developers had some really interesting news to share about upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator add-ons.
The first announcement comes from Orbx, which revealed EU Great Britain Central, a landmark scenery package that doesn’t focus on a single city, but instead covers a large portion of the UK. It features almost 500 points of interest including plenty of details added to seven major cities.
Welcome to Great Britain Central, our first landmark region pack for Microsoft Flight Simulator, designed especially for “low-and-slow” pilots who love to explore and discover new regions, and for those who want to enhance their VFR flights in the area.
Stretching from Liverpool and North Wales up to Newcastle, this region pack captures hundreds of unique landmarks and attractions ready to be explored, from the busy cities such as Newcastle, Manchester and Liverpool, to coastal tourist towns such as Blackpool, Scarborough and Whitby, all have been designed to greatly enhance any flight in the region.During exploration, you can expect to find hundreds of uniquely modelled POIs, including:
- Uniquely modelled lighthouses and piers
- Stadiums
- Famous castles, manor houses and ruins
- Bridges
- Churches and Cathedrals
- Masts, Radomes and military base installations
- VFR reference points
In addition, the following cities/towns have received an upgraded cityscape adding many unique buildings and giving each city a unique look and feel:
- Manchester
- Liverpool
- Leeds
- Media City, Salford
- Sheffield
- Blackpool
- Newcastle
We have also added many unique buildings to many of the smaller towns in the area, as well as hand placed boats, storage tanks and many other points of interest.
The next announcement comes from 29Palms, and it’s Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport (LGSK).
Like many of Greece’s summer destinations, this airport is host to many seasonal flights from all over Europe.
The developer promises to depict the current state of the airport, including the new apron and more. We also get to see the first screenshot.
Next, Aerosoft provided new work-in-progress screenshots of the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter showcasing the cargo cabin and the Trans Maldivian Airways livery.
It’s worth mentioning that the Twin Otter has already been confirmed for the Xbox Series X|S version of the simulator.
Last, but certainly not least, FlyByWire released the first screenshots teasing the exterior model of the Airbus A380, which is going to be freeware.
Recently, we published our brand new and massive interview with head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann, focusing on the Xbox version and short and long-term plans for the sim (on both platforms).
