Persona 5 Royal Gets New Gameplay Screenshots; No Plans for Other Platforms Besides PS4 for Now

Today Atlus updated the official site of Persona 5 Royal with a lot of new screenshots and new information about the upcoming enhanced version of the popular JRPG.

First of all, the screenshots show the school life aspect of the game, including the new third semester that was not included in the original release.

The second part showcases the “Phantom Thief Life” including delving into palaces that will host new elements: we’ll find new and mysterious chests named “Ishi” and we’ll be able to perform new actions using a wire.

Elements like the turn-based battle and the capture, combination, and progression of personas also make a comeback, alongside the Mementos dungeons.

Unfortunately (as mentioned in a brief FAQ) since there are many new gameplay and story elements in Persona 5 Royal, there will be no way to transfer your progress from the original game. That being said, if you have a save game from Persona 5 (either on your PS4 or in the cloud if you own the PS3 version), you’ll receive a bonus that will help you out in the early stages of the new game.

Atlus also mentions clearly that at the moment there is no plan for any other platform besides PS4. On top of that, there will be a system in place that will let you transfer over Persona 5 DLC to Royal paying 10 yen per DLC (which translates into less than $0.1).

Persona 5 Royal is releasing in Japan on October 31, 2019, exclusively for PS4, and in the west in 2020.

If you want to see more about the upcoming game, we recently saw a new trailer focusing on the new character Kasuminew gameplay featuring the Hatsumode visit to the shrine on New Year, the reaction of the fans to the recent trailerquite a few screenshots of the game, a few more gameplay videos, and a third batch.

If you’re interested in Persona 5, you should also check out our interview with Good Smile Company on how Ann Takamaki was turned into an adorable Nendoroid. You’ll probably also enjoy the teaser video of the Valentine’s Day special episode of the anime, especially if you love Ann or Makoto.
