Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is just a few days away, and today Bandai Namco Entertainment released a very special trailer showing off the game’s opening cutscene.

The trailer focuses on Avril Mead, a mechanic of the “Spare” penal squadron that the protagonist is attached to. She talks about her grandfather, and then we get to take a look at a wonderfully vintage F-104. This aircraft has a strong significance in the story of the game, as it marks the passage from fighters piloted in a fully-manual way to the era of computer-aided flight. This is one of the main themes of Ace Combat 7.

The new game also marks the return to the fictional world of Strangereal after the unfortunate parenthesis in the real world with Assault Horizon. The story written by Sunao Katabuchi is sure to bring back memories, as his hand was behind Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies and Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, which fans of the series still love to this day.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown will launch in Japan for PS4 and Xbox One on Jan. 17, 2019. It’ll come to North America and Europe on Jan. 18, with a PC version following on Feb. 1.

In the meanwhile, if you want to see more of the game you can also enjoy the latest trailer starring the Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback, another showcasing the F-35C Lightning 2, the one featuring the Gripen E, the video showing off the Mig-29A Fulcrum, another with the F-14D Super Tomcat, and one focusing on the A-10C Thunderbolt II.

Older videos showcase the Mig-31 Foxhound, the F/A-18F Super Hornet, the Eurofighter Typhoon, and the F-15C Eagle.
