If you were hoping to play Samurai Shodown on Nintendo Switch in Winter 2019 as initially announced, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
The western release of the Switch port has been delayed to Q1 2020, as mentioned today by Nintendo itself.
This is slightly peculiar considering that the game has already been localized and there is no indication of a delay of the Japanese version from its current December 12 date.
With the announcement we also get a trailer showcasing the Nintendo Switch version and its features and controls.
You can watch it below.
Incidentally, those who pre-order the Switch version will receive a port of Samurai Shodown! 2 for Neo Geo Pocjet as a bonus.
If you’re interested in the current version for PS4 and Xbox One, it just received Kazuki Kazama via DLC, and there is one more character coming as part of the first season pass, Wan-Fu.
The second season pass has also already been announced, for now only Mina Makijima has been revealed.
That being said, I recently interviewed producer Yasuyuki Oda who mentioned that the second season pass will also focus on returning characters. Yet, he did not exclude the introduction of guest characters down the line.

The game is currently available for PS4 and Xbox One. It’ll also release on Google Stadia tomorrow, November 19, and on PC at some point down the line.
