Earth Defense Force 5 launched in the West in December of 2018 on PS4(a full year later than its Japanese release) and since then many fans have been waiting with baited breath for the game to make its way to PC.

Developed by Sandlot, the EDF series is a long-time favorite of many. The series’ last game to release on PC, Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair, was a huge success and still has an overwhelmingly positive reception. To complement the Steam release, D3 have released a PC launch trailer, which you can watch below.

EDF5 continues the same insane third-person wave shooter gameplay that’s made the series so popular ever since the release of the first game Monster Attack on the PS2 way back in 2003. With a tongue-in-cheek, B-movie feel, the game has numerous cities laid to waste by giant alien creatures.

You can expect hordes of enemies on the screen at once, even more so than previous titles in the series. To help you in taking them out, you have access to a huge array of classes, weapons, and loadout combinations. The game has a ton of content, with hundreds of missions to get lost in and weapons to play with.

If you’re looking to play with friends, EDF5 also has several multiplayer options. There’s an online co-op mode for up to four players, as well as an offline couch co-op mode that supports up to two players with split-screen.

If you’re a long-standing fan of the series or a newcomer to the games, EDF5 is definitely worth checking out on PC if it’s anything like it is on PS4. For more information on the game and some stunning screenshots, check out the Steam page.
