Today Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XIV players will once again enjoy the shenanigans of Valentin… Ahem… Valentione’s Day.
One of the most pleasant aspects of Final Fantasy XIV is that its seasonal traditions have been around since forever, often building up charming mini-storylines that are renewed annually.
Valentione’s Day has been going on since 2011, when players were still reeling from the disastrous launch of version 1.0. Since then, it skipped only one year as the game was closed to transition to its much more popular and successful successor, A Realm Reborn.
Lady Lisette de Valentione will be back once more this year, and starting on January 29, she will wait for adventurers new and old at the usual amphitheater in Old Gridania. The event will end on February 17.
This year we’ll be tasked with voting for one of three candidates for the position of “Emissary of Love,” and we’ll be granted charming outfits to show off our allegiance.
While we can get only one, they can still be dyed, so we won’t be stuck with our color of choice.
Lovely chocolate fountains (which are very popular in Kushikatsu restaurants in Japan) will also be available to decorate our houses.
The result of the popular vote will be different by server, and will determine the course of the dedicated questline.
You can see the rewards below, alongside the lovely illustration by Masayoshi Inoue created for the occasion.
