Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus

Kicking off our best list for November Steam games, we have Warhammer 40,000 Mechanicus. Here, players command an army of Adeptus Mechanicus comprised of several Tech-priests and troops on a mission to salvage ancient parts from the catacombs of an ancient tomb world.

While the series is notorious for its rocky gaming adaptations, Mechanicus shines as one of the most polished entries to date. Players can undertake certain quests from it’s open mission structure, which is usually marked by a certain objective. It’s during these missions where Mechanicus shines with its brilliantly witty writing wrapped in its CYOA-styled encounters.

That said, the game is also packed with plenty of strategic gameplay that involves moving your units across a tile-based grid. It’s always a battle of wits as you pit your units against high-damaging targets. At the end of it all, however, Mechanicus never feels as punishing and infuriating as several other strategies games out there.

Hitman 2

Hitman 2 is a follow-up to the 2016 game, centering around Agent 47’s slew of new missions. This time around, he’s on a quest to hunt down the mysterious Shadow Client. He’s sent on a globe-trotting adventure, traveling to different locations and taking down new targets.

The second game doesn’t shake things up too much, save for the fact that it’s no longer episodic. There’s a lot of freedom for players to do what they see fit, especially when it comes down to taking down their targets.

Hitman 2 doesn’t hold your hand, and that’s a good thing. You’re given an objective, and it’s pretty much up to you on how you want to carry things out. You can also go the extra mile by completing challenges in relation to kills, giving you an incentive to being creative. Agent 47 has a wide arsenal of weapons to use and costumes for those thrilling undercover sequences.

Sunset Overdrive

Until just recently, Sunset Overdrive had been an Xbox One exclusive before finally getting ported over to Steam. If you’re a huge fan of over-the-top shooter games, there’s definitely a lot to love here.

This game features an open-world that lets you explore the way you want, be it leaping through buildings, running along walls, or even grinding through power rails. It isn’t all about exploration, however, as Sunset Overdrive packs plenty of action filled with some serious firearms. Players can collect tons of strange and outrageous weapons, such as fireworks and acid, to use against their enemies.

The game takes place in 2027, far into the future where the world has been overrun and destroyed by mutants. However, don’t let the whole dystopian plot fool you as Sunset Overdrive is bursting with life with vibrant colors and eye-popping visuals. The world is literally your playground and there’s no shortage of action.

If you’ve always wanted to try Sunset Overdrive, you can finally get it on Steam. The same goes for those who are looking for an over-the-top, action-packed experience. Killer7

Killer7 has been around for a little more than a decade now, but this marks first time the game has made it to Steam. This 2005 classic first launched on the GameCube and PlayStation 2, garnering positive reviews for its intense narrative and interesting art style.

The game follows an elite group of assassins known as Killer7 who perform their deeds on behalf of the United States government. Throughout their missions, however, the group slowly begins to unravel a conspiracy surrounding their organization and the political party they are fighting for.

Gameplay-wise, Killer7 is a first-person shooter that relies on a different type of on-rails movement system. You take control of the entire organization and can switch between members, which you will wind up doing for certain puzzles. One of the few downsides about Killer7 is its confusing control scheme that takes some time to getting used to.

Unconventional controls aside, Killer7 offers a mind-boggling plot wrapped neatly with its stylish visuals. You can’t go wrong with picking up this HD remaster on Steam.

Darksiders 3

It took six years for another entry, but we’ve finally gotten Darksiders 3. The story picks up from the first game, following horseman Fury who’s tasked with hunting down the seven deadly sins. She’s betrayed along the way and is left for dead when a mysterious force salvages her from the depths.

Fury is then sent on another mission that seeks to put an end to the war between heaven and hell while finding more about those who betrayed her. While the game adds another thick layer of Darksiders lore, its real qualities lie within the gameplay.

Series veterans will be glad to know that combat is just as fast and fluid as it’s always been, with Fury dashing in and out of combat as she rips her enemies to shreds. You can unlock more weapons on her journey, which allows Fury to pull off some flashy combos. Customization is back, and while it pales in comparison to previous games, having the option to upgrade weapons and abilities is always a nice touch.

The Steam version does fall flat in several areas, in terms of performance and some uninspired world designs, but its fun gameplay and challenging combat make for a fun experience overall. Check out our full review for our thoughts on Darksiders 3.
