Yakuza 0

Starting off our list, we have Yakuza 0 –the prequel to the action-adventure series. The game finally made it to Steam last August, giving PC players a chance to play the very first installment in the franchise. Yakuza 0 takes place way back in 1988, before protagonist Kazuma Kiryu even met his soon-to-be daughter Haruka, and follows the story of the “Empty Lot” dispute in Japan. Kazuma and Goro Maijima team up to investigate the mysterious power struggle, kickstarting the events in the Yakuza series.

Like most Yakuza games, 0 is also an open world adventure game set in Japan. The game has full fictionalized recreations of Tokyo’s Kabukicho and Osaka’s Dotonbori that are all fully explorable. Since there are two protagonists, you’ll be switching between both Kazuma and Goro throughout Yakuza 0. Apart from the main story are other side quests and hilarious mini-games. Not to mention that it wouldn’t be a full-fledged Yakuza game without the over-the-top combat. Those who have always wanted to get into the Yakuza series should definitely pick up this Steam game. If you’re still on the fence, check out our thoughts on the game in our full review.
