Today’s issue of Famitsu included a spread on the upcoming souls-like action-RPG Nioh 2, and it included some interesting assets and information.
First of all, we get to see some really lovely artwork of the game, which you can check out at the bottom of the post.
The article also included an interview with developers and Koei Tecmo executives.
Asked about the possibility of creating a new Ninja Gaiden, Director Fumihiko Yasuda answered that he really wants to make it, so he asked President Hisashi Koinuma who was also being interviewed at the same time.
Koinuma-san answered laughing that it can’t be done, as Yasuda-san needs to work on the DLC for Nioh 2.
Yasuda-san concluded the exchange by saying “I see, It still can’t be done” and laughing.
Speaking of DLC, Yasuda-san provided a relevant hint about the content of the first DLC.
He mentioned that in the first Nioh the story of the DLC was a sequel to that of the main game, but this time around the era will change even if the setting is still Japan.
A hint to the theme is the early purchase bonus, which is the “First Samurai Armor” which you can see below.
Even with the original Nioh 2, the early purchase bonus was Sanada Yukimura’s armor, and there was a DLC about him.
This appears to indicate that the DLC may be set in the era of the early samurai.
Incidentally, Yasuda-san was also asked about the concept for a hypothetical Nioh 3, and he wondered if it could be possible to challenge a different worldview as opposed to the Sengoku era. That being said, nothing has been decided about a sequel yet.
