Today Ninja Theory announced that content updates for its multiplayer combat game Bleeding Edge will cease.
The announcement was made on the game’s official Twitter account, with the caveat that the game will remain playable on Xbox and PC for the time being.
According to the announcement, the developer intends to focus on its new projects including Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Project Mara, and The Insight Project.
Bleeding Edge was revealed at Xbox’s press conferenced at E3 2019 and released in March 2020 for Xbox One and PC to rather underwhelming reviews.
On the other hand, Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrificed was certainly received much better by the audience, so it’s not surprising that the studio now wants to focus on its sequel on top of its more recent projects with a focus on mental health.
It’ll be interesting to see if Senua’s saga will manage to replicate the success of its predecessor, which was surprising to many considering that it was developed by a very small team, giving credence to the developer’s new “independent AAA” model.
Back in 2018, Ninja Theory was acquired by Microsoft, and it’s now a first-party developer under the umbrella of the Xbox Game Studios brand.
