While Final Fantasy XIV is a very popular and beloved game, there is one element of friction for many players. That’s the fact that in many servers there isn’t enough housing for everyone.

Luckily, this is about to change, or at least to be mitigated.

Today Square Enix announced on its official website The Lodestone that the upcoming update 5.1 will add some breathing room to those looking for a house.

All residential districts will have wards 19 through 21 added with their own subdivisions, meaning 180 plots of land for each district and 720 per server.

While this may not help everyone in big servers like the ever-popular Balmung, each district will also get two new apartment buildings, one for the main district and one in the subdivision.

That being said, the plots of land will be available only to free companies for a limited amount of time before they’re opened to single players.

Patch 5.1 will be titled “Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty,” and it’ll release in late this month. If you want to hear more of what it’ll bring, you can read our extensive recap of the latest broadcast.
