New Final Fantasy XIV Trailer Is All About The “Dad of Light”

Today Square Enix released a brand new commercial of its popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.

In order to publicize the game, the commercial brings forth the actors of the upcoming movie “Dad of Light” Koutarou Yoshida and Kentaro Sakaguchi. The movie is a theatrical adaptation of the “Dad of Light” TV series which debuted in 2017 on Netflix. It was announced at Tokyo Fanfest a few months ago, and it will premiere in Japan in a few days, on June 21.

Of course, a theatrical release of a dedicated movie it’s quite the big deal especially just before the launch of a new expansion, so it’s not surprising that Square Enix is beating the promotional drum.

Incidentally, it appears to be working, as the game recently passed 16 million registered accounts, and according to Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida is at its highest number of paying subscribers ever. Considering that the expansion hasn’t even hit yet, that’s quite the achievement.

Funnily, actual Final Fantasy XIV players will likely find rather funny to see the movie’s hero completely abandon the controls to type a warning to his father about Ramuh’s upcoming lightning.

You can watch the trailer below. As an added bonus, you can also enjoy the direct-feed version of the artwork showcased during the latest Letter from the Producer Live broadcast, at the bottom of the post.

If you’d like to know more about Final Fantasy XIV and its upcoming expansion Shadowbringers, you can check out the details and footage released in the previous broadcast, information on the new races, the reveals from Tokyo FanFest including the Dancer job and the Hrothgar race an official batch of screenshots, and a look on how the new city of Crystarium has been created.

Just a few weeks ago, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida himself also explained why there won’t be male Viera and female Hrothgar, and why the expansion won’t include a healer job. An official benchmark has been released to let you test your rig and check out the new races.

If you want to get ready before the expansion’s release, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is currently available for PS4 and PC. Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers will officially launch on July 2 for PS4 and PC.
