First of all, we get to see the new look of the series’ traditional protagonist Adol Christin. He has been imprisoned in the Bardeuk’s jail and he is trying to break out. During his time behind bars, he meets a mysterious woman and gets involved in a strange case involving the Monstrum.

His looks are definitely different, and it’s tied to his situation as a prisoner. That’s why he doesn’t have his usual red mane.

Adol’s old buddy Dogi also makes a comeback. He also looks a bit older, but the change is certainly less radical.

We also get to see the third Monstrum ability that we’ll be able to enjoy in the game. It’s called the “King’s Road Crimson Line” and lets you move super fast. You can even pass through walls and approach enemies in the blink of an eye to deal devastating damage.

On top of that, we get a Japanese release date. The game will hit the local shelves on September 26.

You can check out the images below. If you want to see more, you can enjoy the first gameplay and more screenshots, some more recent images, and the original reveal.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox has been announced only for PS4. At the moment, no western release has been announced.
