Today Square Enix released a large batch of screenshots, art, and details about the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake.
We get to take a look at some of the antagonists of the game, including Sephiroth, President Shinra, Heidegger, and Roche.
Roche is a Soldier 3rd class who abandoned his duties and loves bikes, speed and competing with others. He’s commonly nicknamed “Speed Junkie.” Quite often, he annoys his companions by being obnoxious with his bike, which means he’s not really well-liked.
We also get to see Aerith’s combat abilities including her normal attack that can be executed both by continuously pressing square or by holding it down. It can hit enemies in a large area.
Her unique ability “Tempest” is activated with the triangle button and can be charged by holding down the button to increase its attack power. At maximum intensity, it will cause multiple explosions.
Soul Drain (“Aspir” in Japanese) lets her absorb MP from enemies, which is important since she relies on magic attacks.
Lustrous Shield (“Shield of Light” in Japanese) can block bullets and cause damage to enemies that touch it.
Speaking of new elements within the game, developers have redesigned Midgar delving deeper into the world and character backstories.
The narrative includes a deeper degree of detail and new episodes are added describing life within the city.
We see the Train Graveyard, which is a vehicle depot where trains are disposed of. The derelict vehicles make a high-pitched noise when hit by a strong wind, similar to the laughter of children. It’s fairly creepy.
In this area, there was no dialogue in the original game, but in the Remake, there is a brand new story that includes several cutscenes.
Shiva is also showcased. Her attribute is, of course, ice, and we get to see her ability Heavenly Strike (which drops a huge block of ice on the enemies) and her final attack Diamond Dust (which freezes enemies and makes them explode).
Last, but not least, we take a look at the Shinra HQ, which is a 70-floor skyscraper at the heart of Midgar. Inside we can find places like offices, an area that showcases the story of the company and the vehicles it builds, one displaying the latest tech, and a relaxation area for employees.
One can climb the skyscraper via elevator or emergency staircases.
