Will DMZ Be In MW3? Explained

DMZ in MW3 sounds key.

Despite the reveal of Modern Warfare 3, by Activision and the incredible in-game Shadow Siege event, very little has emerged on Warzone’s extraction mode DMZ. Here’s what we know and whether it’ll return in MW3.

Is DMZ Staying For MW3?

We think so. There are a few reasons we’re pretty sure DMZ will still be available in MW3.

Firstly, it’s proved pretty popular across the lifespan of MW2. Prior to DMZ’s addition with Warzone 2 – back to just Warzone now – there was never an extraction mode within a Call of Duty. DMZ fills that void, in some ways mimicking games like Escape From Tarkov. While player numbers aren’t precisely known, there’s little reason for Activision to dispense with a fundamentally liked mode.

Secondly, DMZ has been in Beta since it launched. That suggests it will soon launch as a full game, whether tied to Warzone, MW3 – or as its own game altogether.

Finally, when Activision shared details of MW2 content carrying forwards to MW3, it was stated that players could still unlock weapons by extracting them in DMZ. This emerged as an unlock method for weapons players didn’t have, an alternative to levelling up a Battle Pass or paying for a Blueprint. If it carries over into MW3, it stands to reason that DMZ will too.

DMZ & MW3: How Will It Work?

Right now, we’re not too sure. A DMZ reset seems likely, whether it comes with Season 6 or MW3’s release. That’s how Activision have generally handled DMZ, ensuring players don’t have the mode too easy with contraband expansions, hundreds of thousands of cash and a host of weapons and keys.

There have also been rumors that Activision will be ‘scaling down’ DMZ content. It’d be a shame for fans of the mode, which includes us! We’ve had nothing confirmed on a reduction in the prevalence of DMZ though, so don’t read too much into internet rumors and general conjecture.

As we build towards MW3’s November 10, 2023 release date, we’re sure to learn more about DMZ and its place in CoD moving forwards. We’ll be the first to let you know how it’ll turn out.
