Final Fantasy XIV Provides Cryptic Hint to New Expansion’s Story

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Anyone who has followed Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida over the years knows that he loves to tease. And tease he did.

Especially before major expansions, he enjoys dropping cryptic poems that hide hints to the upcoming story.  Since the new “Shadowbringers” expansion is coming, he did just that as part of a celebratory New Year message posted today.

What does that mean? The grimdark factor certainly seems to indicate a crossover with Warhammer 40,000… Jokes aside, I have no clue. Your guess is exactly as good as mine. I have given up trying to interpret Yoshida-san’s poems a long time ago as I simply have no talent for it. If you have any idea, please do share it in the comments.

Within the post, Yoshida-san mentions that 2018 has been an extremely busy year for him and the team, and the 4.5 update series titled “A Requiem for Heroes” will continue all the way to 4.58, which will be the latest major patch before the expansion.

If you want to know more about Final Fantasy XIV, you can check out the latest trailer for update 4.5(which also teased the appearance of Viera in the game), my massive report recapping all the 4.5 info with plenty of videos, and some recent screenshots showing the latest Ivalice Raid, Gear, and More. At the moment players are enjoying the Heavensturn seasonal event in the game.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PS4 and PC.
