Epic Games announced today it will be removing the Playground creative mode from Fortnite: Battle Royale on Thursday, July 12.
In a post to the Fortnite: Battle Royale subreddit, the developer said it would be turning off the limited-time playlist to focus on the next version of the non-competitive mode. The studio plans to add a team selection option within the mode itself, which would offer more abilities that was not present in the current iteration. The full list is below, though Epic is reaching out to the community for more suggestions.
- 1v1s and 2v2s
- Aim assist for controllers
- Editing other player’s structures
- Traps affecting teammates/enemies correctly
- Highlighting teammates on the map
- Damaging enemies with your pickaxe
The update on Playground comes after Epic said through Fortnite’s official Twitch channel earlier today that Playground would become a permanent part of the game. The next version would be seen as more of a mode itself, rather than a limited-time mode. The studio reaffirmed the permanent addition in the Reddit post by saying the limited-time mode was the “first step into what a full creative mode looks like in Fortnite.”
It has not been the first time that Playground has been removed from the game. Playground was first introduced in the 4.5 update released in late June before disabled hours after launch due to server issues. The mode returned earlier this week alongside the 4.5 content update, which only added the Drum Gun for the Battle Royale side of Fortnite.
