Today via a Reddit thread dedicated to complaining about Torbjorn, Vice President of Blizzard Jeff Kapalan announced that the turret-toting Overwatch hero would be receiving a nerf on the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game. In a patch coming in “mid to late July depending on 1st party certification times,” Torbjorn’s turret damage output will be decreased by 30% across the board. The PC version of the game will remain unchanged.
This announcement comes at the heels of a popular unrest in the console Overwatch community regarding the character’s turret. The main controversy lies in the fact that Torbjorn’s turret aims and pinpoint perfect tracking and accuracy, to a degree that’s simply not possible with a controller.
This has lead many players to feel the character and his turret are overpowered. PC players, on the other hand, have the advantage of a much higher degree of precision with a mouse and keyboard, so they can much more easily counter the turret’s accuracy. This patch will hopefully come sooner in July rather than later, as Blizzard still plans to release the game’s highly-anticipated competitive mode in June. It’s in their best interest to iron out as many discrepancies in balance before the more serious game mode becomes available.
