Chad, also known as Chad Mob, in Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 is the fan-made nickname of Shigeo Kageyama’s “handsome” state. This occurrence typically happens when Mob’s ego has skyrocketed, especially when multiple girls gaze at his beauty (scenarios he mostly comes up with in his head.) Chad made his first appearance in the manga near the end of Chapter 94 after Kageyama told his brother about his recent surge in popularity.

Since then, fans have been anticipating this alter-ego’s arrival in the anime, and now they can see his debut in Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 3. In the first episode, the show exhibited a percentage of “Progress Toward Mob’s Explosion,” continuously building up throughout the story. Then, once Kageyama talks to his crush, Tsubomi Takane, and a few other girls, he becomes entranced by his popularity.

As a result, Mob finally reached “100 percent,” transforming him into an alluring Chad. From there, fans got to see hilarious scenes with the character, including a moment where Dimple asks Mob, “What’s with the face and voice, man?”

Now, if you are wondering why the community came up with the name “Chad,” this internet slang term is used for stereotypical attractive men who are incredibly popular. Thus, the fans established the Chad meme with Mob due to his bold appearance and “fame” with the ladies.

You could also compare this instance to One’s (the creator of Mob Psycho 100) other creation, One Punch Man, which displays Saitama’s serious persona during intense fights. Considering the two narratives, you can recognize a theme of alter-egos that showcases the manga artist’s talents and unique sense of humor.
