Today Koei Tecmo released a brand new trailer of the upcoming Dynasty Warriors game Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires.
The trailer provides an extensive look at gameplay including battle, interaction among warlords, and character customization. Apparently, someone had fun creating Oda Nobunaga in the Three Kingdoms period.
You can watch it below.
This new version of Dynasty Warriors 9 brings several radical changes from the original, including battles focused around castle sieges, a full-fledged political system, and the character creator mentioned above.
Here’s how Koei Tecmo describes the game.
“Combining the 1 vs. 1,000 action of DYNASTY WARRIORS with the addition of strategic elements, including unit command, DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 Empires sets players on a quest to conquer ancient China by both sword and strategy. Powerful Siege Battles enable commanders to deploy units to capture strategic points on the map like castles. Experiencing high-stakes fights at every turn, players can now take control of these central points on the battlefield through the use of fire attacks or other stratagem, siege weapons, and, at times, simply by force as commanders execute their strategies and attack enemy troops by issuing vital commands to units throughout the skirmish.
Also added is an enriched edit function that enables gamers the ability to create the officers of their dreams and interact with the heroes of ancient China through an expanded domestic system. Players will be able to live the life of an independent officer, govern as a kind ruler, or act wickedly as a villain, helping create a more lifelike and fulfilling Three Kingdoms world with ever-changing human relations and dramatic events where the relationships between characters will have a greater influence on gameplay than ever before.”
Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires is coming for PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC via Steam in 2021. You can also take a look at earlier screenshots and the original reveal.
The original Dynasty Warriors 9 was released all the way at the beginning of 2018 and it’s currently available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’re unfamiliar with the game, you can read our review.
Incidentally, if you’re wondering about the discrepancy in the numbers between the Japanese and English titles, the game named “Dynasty Warriors” in the west (“Sangokumusou” in Japan) actually isn’t really part of the franchise.
The first true Dynasty Warriors game was “Shin Sangokumusou” in 2000. Since there already was a Dynasty Warriors in the west, it was simply called Dynasty Warriors 2.
That’s why the latest game of the franchise is named “Dynasty Warriors 9 in the west and Shin Sangokumusou 8 in Japan.
