Today another veteran developer announced his departure from Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio.
This time around it’s Masami Yamamoto, who has worked as producer, executive producer, or vice president of contents management on many well-known games including Shadow of the Colossus, Bloodborne, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice, Everybody’s Golf, Knack II, The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2, and many more.
According to the announcement made on Twitter, he retired from Sony on February 28, but he decided to mention it only today.
Yamamoto mentions that he has worked at Sony for 25 years including his tenure at Sony Music Entertainment. He has been very happy as a game developer and would like to thank everyone for their support.
Yet, he hints that he’s not leaving the gaming industry by mentioning that now he can make games for any platform, which is a rather strange feeling for him.
Yamamoto-san is just the latest of a veritable exodus of talent from Sony’s Japan Studio, including a group led by Gravity Rush and Siren creator Keiichiro Toyama, who formed Bokeh Game Studio.
Sony Interactive Itself has confirmed that it’s reorganizing the studio focusing on Astro’s Playroom developer Team ASOBI.
Of course, we’ll follow Yamamoto-san’s future steps, and we will let you know what he does next when he announces it.
