Kojima: Death Stranding Is a “New Genre;” Similar to How MGS Was Called Tactical Espionage Action

Since the latest reveal of Death Stranding left fans with plenty of questions, today Director Hideo Kojima took to Twitter to clarify how he feels about the game’s genre.

Kojima-san mentioned that Death Stranding is not a Stealth game. While you can move freely, it’s not an FPS either.

According to the veteran creator, the game is a totally new genre which he defines “action game/strand game(social strand system)”

Additionally, Kojima-san went on to mention that he’s aware that usually, the name of the genre isn’t made up by the creator, but he likes to name it as he did in the past, like when he called Metal Gear Solid Tactical Expionage Action before it was categorized as a stealth game.

As an additional bonus, the veteran creator will be supervising a voice acting session in Japan today.

Recently Hideo Kojima talked about the creation of the game at Tribeca Film Festival, while he made a few comments on the state of development a few weeks ago. He also shared a detailed timeline of the early years of the game, and his undying gratitude for Guerrilla Games.

Death Stranding is coming to PS4 on November 8, 2019.
