Grim medieval action-adventure A Plague Tale: Innocence launches tomorrow and to celebrate the fact a new launch trailer has been released, depicting the brutality of a country consumed by the Black Death.
Published by Focus Home Interactive, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a brand new IP from developer Asobo Studio and tells a heart-wrenching story of a brother and sister fighting for survival during the beginning of the Hundred Years’ War in France.
The trailer, which you can watch below, shows Amicia and her younger brother Hugo travelling through a harsh world of death and natural dangers. The landscape it littered with rats and corpses, and we’re also introduced to several knight antagonists of the Inquisition, one of which looks like he’ll turn out to be the main villain of the story. We also get some imposing shots of the church, so we can guess the game will probably have some heavy religious themes.
Gameplay-wise, A Plague Tale: Innocence is mainly puzzle-based. As Amicia, in order to survive you must find clever ways of avoiding or controlling swarms of rats. As shown in the gameplay trailer last month, fire is chief way rats can be driven away, and you can even use this to drive them into your foes.
Amicia has a handy slingshot that you can use to defend yourself or distract enemies and, despite his age and mysterious illness, Hugo’s small stature enables him to squeeze through small areas.
This game has been a long time coming, as we got a first look trailer back in E3 of 2017. In recent weeks leading up to launch Focus Home has been releasing a slate of trailers and gameplay footage. Today’s launch trailer is heavy on the atmosphere and makes a great case for anyone still on the fence about picking up the game.
A Plague Tale: Innocence launches tomorrow on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
