Gaming’s already an important part of our lives, but is it worthy of inclusion in the Olympics when the 2024 Summer Olympics roll around? If you’re heavily into esports and competitive gaming, you may very well think so, as does the co-president of the Paris Olympic bid committee.
When speaking to the Associated Press, the co-president stated that discussions are going to be held soon with the International Olympic Committee as well as representatives from competitive gaming to discuss how bringing possible esports competitors to the Olympics might be a beneficial move for both parties.
Tony Estanguet, co-president of France’s bid committee, stated that he believes the gaming community deserves to be included in the discussion when it comes to possibly implementing gaming and esports in the Olympic games.
“We have to look at it because we can’t say, ‘It’s not us. It’s not about Olympics,'” he explained “The youth, yes they are interested in esports and this kind of thing. Let’s look at it. Let’s meet them. Let’s try if we can find some bridges.”
Seeing something like esports added to the fold at the Olympics could be a monumentous occasion for some, and could even go so far as to legitimize the career even further for some players. It could only be a good decision if the IOC decides to go ahead with the inclusion. Either way, we’ll just have to wait and see.
