If you want to try out Yakuza: Like a Dragon before it launches in Japan, you’ll soon be able to, as revealed by its developers today.

Sega held a preview event for the fans in a store in Tokyo, and chief creative officer Toshihiro Nagoshi and Chief Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama were in attendance.

During a Q&A session reported by the Japanese site 4Gamer, Yokoyama-san confirmed that the demo will be released to the public.

He also added that the date for said release will be announced soon.

Of course, the demo will be in Japanese and it’ll require a Japanese PSN account to download, but that’s easy to create.

The demo is basically an extended version of the trial version that was playable at Tokyo Game Show, designed to highlight the brand new JRPG elements of the game.

The release of a demo may be unsurprising for veteran fans of the series, and the pattern of presenting the game at Tokyo Game Show followed by public preview events in Japan, and then by a release of the demo, is pretty much an established tradition.

This likely means that the demo is probably coming in English as well at some point, but of course we have no confirmation or precise info on that.

If you’d like to see more about the game, you can check out plenty of gameplay from a few days ago and the latest screenshot reveal, which, combined with the previous one, shows how the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio appears to be taking a page from Persona’s book.

You can also enjoy the original reveal, the first trailer with English subtitles,  more trailers and gameplayeven more clips, another batch of videos, the latest one, and  another gallery.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon will launch in Japan on January 16, 2020, exclusively for PS4. It’ll also come west later next year.
