Terraria Co-Creator Cancels Stadia Version After His Google Account is Inexplicably Locked

Andrew Spinks, the co-creator of the popular side-scrolling sandbox game Terraria, has today announced he is canceling its Stadia port after having been locked out of his Google account for three weeks.

The news comes by way of a Tweet from Spinks, who lamented Google’s lack of explanation as to why his account had been disabled, and indeed for a lack of customer service in general.

According to Spinks, he’s lost “access to thousands of dollars of apps, a new video game, his YouTube channel, and a Gmail account he’s had for 15 years.”

That’s enough for Spinks to lose all patience with the company and put an end to any plan that would see Terraria launch on Stadia.

It’s hardly the sort of press Stadia needed, either, considering the recent news that it was shutting down internal game development efforts — a move that perhaps signals the streaming service’s struggle to make an impression on the games industry.

Google Stadia endured a shaky start on the market last year, launching with several missing features and at a price point that left it adrift of its competitors. The service has improved since, but its ability to carve itself a slice of the segment remains in the balance.

Terraria first launched in 2011 and is currently available on almost every gaming platform, including PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.

The game received its final content update last year.
