Overwatch Workshop full release

Overwatch Workshop Now Live on Consoles and PC with Newest Patch

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

In addition to the Anniversary event, Blizzard rolled out a broader release of the Overwatch Workshop in today’s update. Originally debuting on the PTR (Public Test Realm) last month, the Workshop is now fully available on the PC version of the game as well as PS4 and Xbox One.

The Overwatch Workshop is a “simplified game scripting system” that’s basically an enhanced version of the custom game editor that has been available for a while now. Players can utilize this new tool and its custom interface to add their own unique rules, events, conditions, and actions to preexisting Overwatch assets and game modes.

While Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan describe the Workshop as being geared towards players with “programming backgrounds”, a large number of unique and elaborate new game modes have already been made by users around the world. These creations can be easily shared and experienced via a unique game code that’s generated with each new mode.

We covered 10 of our favorite creations earlier this month, but new ones are popping up as we speak thanks to the broader release today. You can learn more about what the Overwatch Workshop is, how share codes work and more in our guide on the subject. Keep in mind, as Blizzard notes, that the Workshop is still “a complex feature” that developers are “still iterating on”. Players are encouraged to “post any questions or issues in the Workshop forum.”

Besides the new seasonal event goodies and the addition of the Workshop, today’s patch contained a few bug fixes and two small Hero tweaks:

Baptiste – Immortality Field

  • If it lands on a moving platform, it will move along with the platform

Wrecking Ball – Minefield

  • If a mine lands on a moving platform, it will move along with the platform

You can read the entirety of today’s patch notes here, and read up on some Blizzard-provided tips for using the Overwatch workshop here.
