Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios, has been teasing the reveal of a sequel to the popular DC superhero fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us here and there, but today Injustice 2 has been officially revealed. In the announcement, a trailer depicts an epic, all-out brawl between many heroes and a lot of glowing armor. Injustice 2 is set to take place after the events of the first, with Batman and crew working together to rebuild society after Superman’s destructive reign. However, a new threat appears that will threaten the very existence of Earth itself. Check out the announcement trailer below.
Injustice 2 is aiming to have “the biggest DC roster ever offered in a fighting game,” with the return of prominent heroes, such as Superman, Batman, and Aquaman, along with the introduction of new ones. Currently, there are three newcomers confirmed for the game: Supergirl, Gorilla Grodd, and Atrocitus. Injustice 2Â will also see new environments and promises to take “environment destruction and interaction to the next level.”
Probably the most interesting addition is the new Gear System wherein items will drop that enables the player to customize their heroes and villains. The RPG-like system will allow you the opportunity to play your favorite characters completely different from how others choose to use them. The extent of the Gear System isn’t clear, however this type of system isn’t common in many fighting games and is certain to expand Injustice 2 beyond just the standard combo beat-em-up.
Injustice 2 is scheduled to release in 2017 for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. There isn’t any information about a possible PC release, however due to the struggles with Mortal Kombat X on PC, we wouldn’t be surprised if Injustice 2 skips the PC altogether.
