Sakura Wars: How to Switch Characters

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Though it doesn’t make up the bulk of Sakura Wars‘ gameplay, mech combat offers a surprising amount of variety and gameplay options for you to dig into. This includes the ability to play as different mechs on the fly, which is why we’re here with a guide on how to switch characters in Sakura Wars.

How to Switch Characters in Sakura Wars

Switching characters in Sakura Wars is a simple enough process once you know what to do.

While in combat against demons with a teammate or teammates present, press the L1 button. This will swap your active character to that of your partner, and you’ll gain access to all of their moves and equipment until you choose to switch back to your original character.

It’s important to note, however, that you’ll take control of said character with whatever health and spirit levels they had before you swapped to them. Likewise, they’ll spawn in wherever your original character was, meaning you can’t zoom around the map by switching your character.

When You Should Switch Characters

On the other hand, switching characters in Sakura Wars does offer some notable advantages.

For example, if you’re on a mission with multiple flying enemies, you can swap over to a character who uses ranged weapons. This can allow you to take them out much more easily than if you tried to charge directly at them with aerial melee attacks.

You can also execute more special attacks by swapping between characters. Each character has their own Spirit meter that can be filled for a special attack, and they won’t use them unless you’re actively controlling them. This means you can execute several special attacks in quick succession, or even keep some stored up until a stronger enemy appears.

Hopefully this cleared up how to switch characters in Sakura Wars. For more on the game, check out some of its trailers covering who the demonic antagonists are and the artists behind the characters’ designs.
