Apex Legends Gaiden Event: All Skins & Anime References Explained

That Flatline is insanely nice.

The new Apex Legends Gaiden Event is a big reference to popular anime. But, some of the references make could be kind of obscure. So, we’ll detail out exactly what each skin is supposed to portray. Here’s an explanation of all skins and anime references in the Apex Legends Gaiden Event.

Legendary Character Skins

All the skins below must be either obtained out of a Gaiden event pack or crafted using materials.

Lightning Spirit Legendary Wattson Skin

Lightning Spirit Legendary Wattson Skin

As you can no doubt tell by the red whiskers and black headband, this Wattson skin is a direct reference to Naruto Uzumaki. Those face whiskers are a very nice touch, too.

Marked Man Legendary Mirage Skin

The color scheme and mask should definitely give this one away. This Mirage skin is a reference to Deku (Izuku Midoriya) from My Hero Academia. Though, there is also certainly a touch of All Might in there.

Revelations Legendary Revenant Skin

The sharp mech look of this Revenant skin (fittingly on an already robotic/android character) is a reference to the EVA-01 suit in Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Sea Legs Legendary Octane Skin

Between the open red shirt, hat, and chest scar, this reference is incredibly obvious. This Octane skin is a walking reference to Monkey D. Luffy from pirate anime One Piece.

Legendary Weapon Skins

Just as with the above, the only way to get these skins is through either event packs or crafting.

Blunderbuss Legendary EVA-8 Skin

Blunderbuss Legendary EVA-8 Skin

Just as with the Octane skin, this EVA-8 is very obviously supposed to be modeled after a pirate Blunderbuss and screams One Piece.

Cardinal Force Legendary Wingman Skin

This Wingman skin absolutely has Deku’s color scheme from My Hero Academia.

Oak Thump Legendary Charge Rifle Skin

This Charge Rifle connects to the Wattson skin above and, while still bearing the Naruto Uzumaki colors, appears to also reference the Wood Style Jutsu seen in the anime.

Revelations Legendary Flatline Skin

If you thought the Revenant skin was very obviously Neon Genesis Evangelion, look no further than this Flatline, both skins even share the same name. It shares the same color scheme while also giving a sleek EVA-01 appearance. If you zoom in a little, the gun also has “Test Type” written on the side.

Epic Character Skins

These are certainly not as flashy, and all but one still can be crafted or found in event packs. The Fuse skin among them is for getting to 3000 points in the prize tracker before the end of the first week.

Heart Stopper Epic Seer Skin

Heart Stopper Epic Seer Skin

It is very clear that Seer is supposed to be Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon with this skin. It’s a good look. It’s a shame this skin is only an epic, there’s so much more that could be done with a legendary skin.

Soldier of Justice Epic Bangalore Skin

Soldier of Justice Epic Bangalore Skin

While Bangalore as a character doesn’t seem like she’d mesh with the whole uniform, she is clearly referencing Sailor Moon with this skin. This is the only doubled-up reference in the whole event after the Tuxedo Mask Seer skin.

Lifeblood Epic Bloodhound Skin

The one red eye and black right half of Bloodhound’s face here is clearly referencing Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul.

Strength and Power Epic Crypto Skin

While blonde hair doesn’t fit Crypto even a little bit, the yellow, orange, and blue of this skin is a definite reference to Goku from Dragon Ball Z.

Down Thunder Fuse Skin

Take it all in. The metal right arm, gloved left hand, and red jacket with black undershirt are a dead giveaway. The fact that both legs have some metal to them is a little off, but Fuse is most certainly supposed to be Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Epic Weapon Skins

There is only one skin on this list, and it is earned by reaching 2000 points in the Gaiden event’s first-week prize tracker.

Cloudburst Epic 30-30 Skin

Cloudburst Epic 30-30 Skin

The yellow cloud racing through the sky is a clear reference to Nimbus from Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.

There you have it, Legends, a complete explanation of all skins and anime references in the Apex Legends Gaiden Event. We will be sure to update this guide if the second week’s prize tracker for the Gaiden event brings new skins.
