Is Demise in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Answered

The Demise of the great villain.

Demon King antagonists are likely well known to Zelda players, with Ganondorf featuring as TOTK’s primary villain. One historic antagonist from the series – the final boss in Skyward Sword – is Demise. But is Demise in Tears of the Kingdom? Here’s that, and more, answered.

Naturally, the below article will spoil some elements of Tears of the Kingdom, so if you don’t want to know story details or discussion of the game’s antagonists, come back another time!

Is Demise in Tears of the Kingdom? Answered

No, the Demon King Demise does not return in TOTK. The primary antagonist in Tears of the Kingdom is Ganon, also known as Ganondorf.

He’s a Demon King just like Demise, but they’re not thought to be explicitly linked. The reason it’s slightly more complex is because, at the end of Skyward Sword when he is beaten by players, Demise promises that an incarnation of his hatred will return and pursue the world domination he craves. He is then sealed away in the Master Sword, where he is trapped and starts decaying.

It’s therefore possible that Ganondorf is the reincarnation of Demise’s evil that he promised. There are, however, no details or pointers to this in TOTK’s story.

The major aesthetic difference between the two – that also supports Demise being absent in TOTK – are the horns Ganondorf possesses. Demise does not have horns so Ganondorf’s physical appearance does not hint at a link between the two.

There’s every chance we’ll find out more in a future Zelda instalment, which seems increasingly likely as TOTK breaks sales record for the series.

That’s the answer to whether Demise returns in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. For all the latest on TOTK, from repairing the Master Sword to finding Razorshrooms, we’ve got it covered right here.
