Turtle Rock Studios brought some good and bad news to gamers excited for their next project Back 4 Blood.
In a post made to the official Back 4 Blood Twitter account on Mar. 25, it was revealed that the cooperative multiplayer survival horror shooter had been delayed. Its new release date is set for Oct. 12, 2021. Turtle Rock cited the need to further polish the game and make it the best it could be as the reason for the delay.
The studio thanked those who are supporting them through the game’s development, and the community that has already formed around the game.
However, this bad news came with a silver-lining. The game’s developer also announced that an open beta would be held this summer. Specifics on how to sign up for it, and the exact timeframe when this beta would be open, were not provided.
The full announcement can be found down below.
First revealed back in 2019, Back 4 Blood is the latest offering from the studio behind Evolve and several developers responsible for making the Left 4 Dead games. In it, players take the role of one of four different survivors and must work together with other players to survive an onslaught of undead enemies.
The game is heavily inspired by the Left 4 Dead franchise, and many fans of the lauded series have flocked to the new IP as a result. However, it’s worth noting that Back 4 Blood isn’t without its elements which improve on the framework it was inspired by, as our feature on its card system shows.
Back 4 Blood is currently slated for release on Oct. 12 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC. For more on the game and what it will offer, check out this dev diary and gameplay video which was released near the end of last year.
