With just over a week until the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Nintendo UK has released a 4 minute overview trailer, giving Zelda fans an in-depth look at what to expect from this reborn classic.
We’ve already gotten fairly familiar with the upcoming fantasy adventure, thanks to Nintendo’s dutiful stream of updates and demos. For anyone still unsure about Link’s Awakening, this overview trailer manages to cover just about everything.
Anyone who’s played the 90s original(and even most of those who didn’t) will be familiar with the story: Link finds himself washed ashore the tropical yet mysterious Koholint Island. From here on out he sets out on his quest to return home – not an easy feat.
While the remake largely copies the original’s plot, gameplay, and top-down perspective, Link’s Awakening has been re-imagined with charming new visuals reminiscent of stop-motion.
The trailer, which you can check out below, also shows off new characters and enemies, which many have already noticed are loving homages to other popular characters from other Nintendo games, most notably, the Kirby and Mario series.
It wouldn’t be a Zelda game without dungeons, and this trailer makes no doubt that the game will have a ton of them. Not only will you trawl through them in search of some much-needed gear, but you’ll also face of against monsters and puzzles alike in their depths.
Another interesting thing to note is the addition of Chamber Dungeons to Link’s Awakening, which allow you to arrange your own dungeons, room by room according to a theme, and complete them to earn rewards.
As far as remakes go, Link’s Awakening looks to be a refreshing take on the original. It’s clearly been updated to fit in with the modern gaming world, shown by the trailer drawing to a close announcing amiibo support.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will release on Switch later this month on September 20. Many already have high hopes for the game, and with Breath of the Wild 2 still under way, this latest installment looks like more than enough Zelda to sink your teeth into.
