The upcoming adventure game/visual novel Root Film by Kadokawa Games certainly comes with a distinctive art style, and today you get to see more.
The developer’s president Yoshimi Yasuda has been tweeting several screenshots of the game (sources: 1,2,3,4,5) showcasing several members of the cast.
Like its predecessor, the artwork id designed by acclaimed character designer Taro Minoboshi, also known for love simulation masterpieces like the Love+ series and LoveR.
The setting is once more the Shimane prefecture of Japan, providing a very different backdrop compared to the usual locations we find in most Japanese media.

Root Film is about a TV series, called “Shimane Mystery Drama Project”, which was cancelled for an unknown reason 10 years ago. To reboot the project, three teams consisting of a director and an actress have been cast, including 23 year old Rintaro Yagumo, the main character of the game.
His excitement about this amazing opportunity is quickly curbed, when a horrible murder interrupts their location scouting process. Follow him and a cast of unique and memorable characters by character designer Taro Minoboshi as they are drawn deeper into the thrilling mystery of Root Film.

Root Film will launch in Japan on April 23, 2020, for PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
The western release will come courtesy of PQube Games but doesn’t have a release date besides a generic “2020.”
