Kadokawa Games announced the Japanese release of its upcoming mystery adventure game Root Film.
The game will launch in Japan on April 23, 2020, for PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
If it doesn’t ring a bell, it’s the second title of the Kadokawa Game Mystery series, following Root Letter.
Pre-orders in Japan started today, while Kadokawa Games will launch its own web store tomorrow at this link.
Below you can see a couple of images and the official box art for both platforms.
Early purchasers of the physical edition will receive a DVD including the concert by the idol band i☆Ris and the making of the game.
Do keep in mind that this is all for the Japanese version of the game. The western release will come courtesy of PQube Games but doesn’t have a release date besides a generic “2020.”
Below you can read an official description of the game:
“Root Film is about a TV series, called “Shimane Mystery Drama Project”, which was canceled for an unknown reason 10 years ago. To reboot the project, three teams consisting of a director and an actress have been cast, including 23-year-old Rintaro Yagumo, the main character of the game.
His excitement about this amazing opportunity is quickly curbed when a horrible murder interrupts their location scouting process. Follow him and a cast of unique and memorable characters by character designer Taro Minaboshi as they are drawn deeper into the thrilling mystery of Root Film.
The gameplay of Root Film will be a mix of the masterful storytelling Kadokawa Games is known for, as well as a multitude of interactive elements”
