New Star Wars: Fallen Order Video Explains BD-1 Design Inspiration

As we draw closer to the launch of developer Respawn’s upcoming Star Wars action-adventure game, Fallen Order, the team is shedding some light on the design inspirations behind the game’s various characters and environments. Today, a video details the conceptualization of BD-1, the buddy droid that accompanies protagonist Cal Kestis.

In Fallen Order lore, BD-1 was programmed to be the ideal assistant to a researcher or explorer operating alone in the field with its ability to traverse all types of terrain. 

From influences such as the iconic Episode 4 scene in which Luke carries Yoda to designing the droid’s emotes and interactions with Cal, this latest video provides a behind-the-scenes look at how the artists, animators and sound designers at Respawn brought BD-1 to life.
