While most of Gears 5‘s areas are linear and easy to traverse, the newly introduced open, sandbox areas can be labyrinthine to traverse, many of them large and confusing. That’s why we’re here to walk you through how to open the map.
How to Open the Map in Gears 5
Once you reach either of Gears 5’s open areas –those being the Valley and the Desert– you’ll have the option to open the map at most any time. When you’re on foot, all you need to do is press the View button and cycle over to the Map tab.
The process is even easier when you’re traveling on Gears 5’s new Skiff vehicle. Simply press the View button, and you’ll automatically be taken to the Map tab without having to cycle through the rest of the game’s menus.
If you want to see everything the Valley and the Desert have to offer, checking the map can be useful for making sure you’re headed toward the side mission or point of interest you wish to check out, as opposed to something you’d rather avoid or just aren’t interested in seeing at the moment.
Checking the map can likewise keep you on track if you want to barrel toward the main mission objective, bypassing any distractions the areas’ side content could provide.
