The sequel to the 1994 arcade and Neo Geo game made an appearance during Nintendo’s Nindie Direct video this morning, showing off several smaller titles coming to the Nintendo Switch. The announcement trailer featured the game’s new 2D hand-drawn look and ’80s- inspired animation, but with no footage of gameplay. The game will have new characters, stages, power moves, and “enhanced online multiplayer gameplay modes” alongside local multiplayer.

“Growing the Windjammers community over the past two years has been a lot of fun, and with that growth we see a great opportunity to continue to innovate on its timeless and fun gameplay,” said Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert in a press release. “Thanks to that experience, we have a clear idea of how to make Windjammers 2 as fun and entertaining as the original.”

Windjammers was originally developed by Data East, hardware manufacturer and developer of arcade titles such as Burgertime and Bad Dudes, and was remade by Dotemu for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2017. Additionally, the company announced today the Nintendo Switch version of the remake would be launching on Oct. 23 for $14.99.
