For pre-ordering, players will unlock the new Iron Gjallarhorn, a black variant of the weapon. But pre-ordering is not the only way to get the new weapon. Every player can unlock the weapon through a new quest line introduced in Rise of Iron. This standard version will have the traditional gold and white coloring, but won’t require pre-ordering. The quest line will see players build the famed rocket launcher themselves from the “armor of fallen heroes.”

For those that may have blocked it out, Gjallarhorn was the single most powerful weapon in the game’s first year. It was common for raid groups to turn away members without it. Giving the rocket launcher a quest chain of its own is a nice nod to its fame amongst the fan base.

Rise of Iron is the newest expansion for Destiny, due out September 20 for Xbox One and PS4. It will introduce new weapons, new quests, a raid, and plenty of new content for players to sink their teeth into. As we learn more about Rise of Iron, you’ll find it all right here on Twinfinite.
