Pokemon Shield Knocked Off UK Charts Top Spot as Modern Warfare Marches on

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continues to steamroll the UK retail charts as it returns to top spot this week, knocking Pokemon Shield from its perch in the process.

Despite Pokemon Sword & Shield falling to third and third and fifth spot respectively, though, Gamesindustry.biz notes the pair are still showing good legs considering that their 58% and 65% drop in sales is less than Pokemon Sun & Moon’s 70% drop over the same amount of time back in 2016.

Elsewhere, Respawn’s Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order has remained competitive, sticking its second spot place for another week after just a 47% drop in boxed sales.

A key takeaway is that yet again Nintendo Switch games dominate the top ten, and there are a further eight spread throughout the top 40. Black Friday deals have seen both Switch hardware numbers rise and games like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, Minecraft Switch, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games 2020 all boosted.

Things aren’t so positive for chart debutant Shenmue 3, however, which enters down at number 17 spot, with sales just over half of the Shenmue 1 & 2 remasters last year (PS4 sales only).

Death Stranding also had a poor week, dropping out of the top ten to 13th spot after a 51% drop in sales.
