The Stanley Parable Designer Has a Countdown to His Upcoming Game

It's the final countdowwnnnn!
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

William Pugh, the designer behind 2013’s indie hit The Stanley Parable, has announced that he has made a new game which will be released this Friday. Exceptionally little is known about the game, other than a handful of screenshots and a teaser on their website. While the game remains mostly shrouded in mystery,we should expect this much considering the path set before it by The Beginner’s Guide. The Beginner’s Guide is the creation of David Wren, who also worked on The Stanley Parable, and was released with very little fanfare earlier this year.

This doesn’t look like The Stanley Parable

The game, as of yet untitled, was teased in October, along with the release of some screenshots. Since then more details have arisen. The game is stated to only be between 15 and 20 minutes long, and is described by the developer as “a strange and whirlwind sort of heist game.”

It has also been stated that it will star UK comedian Simon Amstell, known for his role in Grandma’s House and his stand-up comedy performances.

The game is the debut game of Pugh’s new company, Crows Crows Crows, which hosts a countdown timer to the game’s release on its website. There is some text that floats by behind the timer if you stay on the page long enough. From the wacky tone of the website and the presence of Simon Amstell, we can safely expect a similarly wacky tone from the upcoming untitled game.

Will it feature the same degree of meta-awareness and post-modern philosophy that the Stanley Parable became so well known for? That is at this moment unclear, but if the teaser is any hint, it very well could adopt the same self-aware tone. We’ll just have to keep a close eye on Pugh’s twitter, hoping he will reveal the title and more details in the hours before release.
