You Won’t Be Able to Preload Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store

With the arrival of Borderlands 3 right around the corner, many patient fans are waiting for their chance to preload the game before it launches on Sep. 13.

However, for those who were planning to take a few days off from work or to stay up all night playing the newest entry in the Borderlands franchise may need to think again.

Epic Games Founder and CEO, Tim Sweeney, stated in a Twitter response that players will not be able to preload Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store due to the feature not being ready in time for the game’s release.

This means that anyone that hoped to have to game downloaded and ready to play by midnight of Sep. 13 will instead be greeted by a progress bar as they download the near 75 gigabytes that the game is listed at according to the PlayStation Store.

Up to this point, the Epic Games Store has not supported preloading for any title, despite the same game on Steam offering players that ability.

Unfortunately for PC players, Borderlands 3 is exclusive to the Epic Games Store for the foreseeable future, meaning that they do not have a choice to buy the game on Steam or elsewhere if they want to preload it before it is released.

As download sizes for games get larger and download caps from Internet service providers continue to affect a majority of people, the ability to preload games has been a welcomed feature that many people have learned to appreciate.

Due to the Epic Games Store still being in somewhat of an infancy, the service lacks proper features that most digital game distributors have.

Currently, the Epic Games Store does not have preloading, lacks full support for cloud saves, and does not feature a majority of community features that Steam users have learned to enjoy over time.

However, that isn’t to say that Epic does not have its fair share of enticing propositions to get players to download their client. The Epic Games Store has been giving players two free games a week and offering sales on titles that rival, and sometimes even outmatch Steam’s sale prices.

Regardless of the client’s offerings, not allowing players to preload Borderlands 3 launches adds to the continued disappointment that gamers have been expressing when it comes to the Epic Games Store.
