The console – dubbed the PlayStation 4k – is said to support 4K resolution.

“It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4,” said President and Group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House. “We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle”.

Sony did not confirm the price or release date of the updated console, although it is likely it will release late this year following software support for 4K devices releasing in Autumn.

“All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4”, he continued.

Sony also confirmed that the PlayStation 4K console will not be shown during Sony’s press conference at E3 this year. The company’s press conference will air on June 13th at 6PM pacific standard time and 9PM eastern standard time.
