Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Accessibility Options Detailed by Insomniac

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s an unfortunate reality that many blockbuster video games aren’t accessible to those with various disabilities; up until quite recently, it hasn’t been a norm for developers to provide different accessibility options. Thankfully, the folks over at Insomniac Games are determined to make sure their highly-anticipated sequel, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, is going to be accessible to as many players as possible.

In a detailed post today, the developer has listed a number of configurable accessibility options. The post begins with a message from the team:

Insomniac Games is dedicated to creating games that have a positive and lasting influence on people’s lives. This includes developing games that are playable and inclusive for people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Most of the options listed are more or less what you’d expect to find in pretty much any video game — difficulty settings, aim assist, graphical settings, etc. But what is nice to see are options to change UI colors, HUD features, and a fully configurable control system, which I imagine will be of great benefit to those who have difficulty seeing or controlling video games for one reason or another.

It’s also positive to hear that Insomniac is determined to add more similar features to its games moving forward:

“We’re excited about the future of accessibility and the continued expansion of inclusive features. Like with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, we’re able to transfer new features from game to game and are building a foundation that will grow our accessibility features and allow our games to reach more players. This is a key part of our mission to enrich the lives of people from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities.”

Again, for the full list of options, head over to Insomniac’s breakdown here.

Part of the accessibility options include configurable DualSense settings; for more on how Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart makes use of the PS5’s controller, you can check out a recent trailer on exactly that here.
