Dubbed the ‘Pokemon Go! Sydney Walk #1 event’, on July 10, fans of the game will show off their red, yellow or blue pride exploring Sydney’s harbor side in hopes of discovering rare Pokemon. The event, which started as a mere joke by the Content Manager of PAX Australia, Guy ‘Yug’ Bloomberg, has since quickly grown with over 10,000 people expressing interest in attending.

Pokemon GO was announced as one of Nintendo’s innovations to mobile gaming alongside the Tomodachi Life-like Miitomo and is developed by Niantic. The game was first soft-launched in Australia and New Zealand on July 6, before launching in the United States the following day; it will launch in other regions in the coming days, according to the developer’s recent blog post. Pokemon GO has undoubtedly influenced the way we’ve approached our daily lives, as the Facebook page of the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services in Australia warned.

“For those budding Pokemon Trainers out there using Pokemon GO – whilst the Darwin Police Station may feature as a Pokestop, please be advised that you don’t actually have to step inside in order to gain the Pokeballs,” a spokesperson for the government organisation said.

“It’s also a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street. That Sandshrew isn’t going anywhere fast.”

Have you been sidetracked from your everyday life because of Pokemon GO? Would you like to explore your city looking for Pokemon with other trainers? Let us know in the comments below.
