The holiday push.

PlayStation VR will once again run in-store demos at popular retailers nationwide just in time for the holiday season, vice president of PlayStation marketing Mary Yee announced today via the PlayStation Blog.

Boosting over 100 titles as of September this year, PlayStation VR demos will be available at more than 200 Best Buy and GameStop locations across the United States. Among the titles able to be demoed, Gran Turismo Sport, Final Fantasy XV: Monster of the Deep, Superhot VR, Dino Frontier, Raw Data, and Voltron will all be playable. The post adds that more games will be able to be sampled during the program’s run and that each will be announced as it’s added. The same goes for Canadian audiences, who already have in-store demos of PlayStation VR at their respective video game retailers.

This push of the peripheral comes just days after news that a new PlayStation VR model will be hitting the market soon. Model number CUH-ZVR2 features an upgraded processor that enables HDR passthrough (meaning users will be able to watch HDR content on their TVs without first needing to unplug their headset) and the ability to integrate stereo headphone cables directly into the headset.

Though Sony has promised to “continue to promote further expansion and diffusion of PlayStation VR”, the future of the peripheral remains uncertain, as sales numbers weren’t too great according to the company’s standards last time fans were informed of them. It remains to be seen whether or not the platform will run out of steam soon.
