We’re in week three of the Throwback Challenge 2020 and the fourth is rapidly approaching. If you’ve missed out on a week or two, then Niantic just released some news that will come as a welcome surprise to some Pokemon GO trainers in the form of the Throwback Challenge Celebration.
Earlier today it was announced that a ticket will be available on the Pokemon GO shop for those who don’t finish all the regional Throwback Challenges. For $7.99 you can unlock the Throwback Challenge Celebration Special Research.
This paid Special Research will feature all the same rewards and tasks as the Throwback Challenge Champion Special Research. However, if you unlock the Champion version, then you’ll receive slightly different rewards in the Throwback Challenge Celebration.
Here are the features that you can expect to see in Champion and Celebration Challenges:
Encounters with Galarian Meowth and Galarian Stunfisk! This will be their first appearance in Pokemon GO.
Research tasks that lead to encounters with Pokemon originally discovered in the Unova region, such as Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Blitzle, Audino, Darumaka, Gothita, and Genesect.
A chance to earn exciting rewards, including Professor Willow’s glasses as an exclusive avatar item!
They’ve also already revealed the details of how this will work if you have access to both challenges. All Pokemon encounters will be changed to a reward of 10 candies for the corresponding mon. Also, you’ll get some Stardust instead of unlocking Prof. Willow’s glasses for a second time.
You can purchase the ticket from the Pokemon GO shop at any time during the Throwback Challenge event that runs from June 3 at 1 p.m. until June 8 at 1 p.m. local time. The Throwback Challenge Celebration can be completed at any time.
The following features will be available to all trainers even if they don’t have access to either of the Throwback Challenge Special Research quests:
Galarian Stunfisk will be making its Pokémon GO debut! Find it in the wild, in raids, and as a Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research reward encounter.
The following Pokémon will also be making their Pokémon GO debut and hatching from 7 km Eggs along with their usual forms: Galarian Meowth, Galarian Zigzagoon, Galarian Darumaka, and Galarian Stunfisk. Try evolving Galarian Meowth, Galarian Zigzagoon, and Galarian Darumaka!
Pokémon originally discovered in the Unova region will be appearing more frequently in the wild.
