According to figures released by Famitsu and Media Create on Mar. 25, Nintendo’s portable home console surpassed the 4 million units mark for lifetime sales within its country of origin last month. Though the two outlets’ figures show a difference of a few thousand consoles over or under the mark, both fall within the usual range for market data discrepancies.

This is only the latest sales milestone for the Switch, which has enjoyed a bevy of success within its first year of availability. In addition to already surpassing the Wii U in overall sales, it managed to triple the sales of the PlayStation 4’s first year sales and has become one of the fastest selling consoles in history.

Several factors have contributed to this, including a wide array of third party support from studios like Bethesda and an increasing viability for indie title release and development on the console. This shows no signs of stopping either, with third party titles like the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and indie titles like Undertale announced for release on the console.

The Nintendo Switch is currently available from most retailers for $299. For more on the console, check out our recent coverage of the company’s Nindie Showcase.
