Hot on the heels of Resident Evil 3’s official unveiling during PlayStation State of Play broadcast yesterday, it appears as though some sort of Resident Evil 3-themed update is on the way to its predecessor.
As spotted by Twitter user Wario64, a new Steam achievement has been added to the game which challenges players to “Read a letter left behind by Jill.”

If you’ve played the original game then you’ll know that RE2 and 3 take place at almost identical times, so the crossover makes sense from a timeline perspective. We’re expecting Capcom to incorporate plenty of that in the upcoming Resident Evil 3 Remake.
As for this particular achievement, its existence was actually discovered a number of weeks ago but only now has its description revealed that it’s a Resident Evil tease. Well done to those that called it.
Capcom is so far silent on when and how this new achievement be implemented into Resident Evil 2. Whether it’s just that achievement or whether it forms part of a larger update we’ll have to wait and see.
Until then, you can check out Resident Evil 3’s brilliant new trailer and a bunch of official screenshots here.
