Developer Mojang has today revealed the Snapshot test version of Minecraft’s upcoming Nether Update 1.16, and it teases a bunch of exciting new content coming to the game. In particular, new biomes, Netherite material, and a stack of new blocks that have various interesting properties.
The new biomes are Crimson Forest, Soulsand Valley, and Warped Forest, which all feature unique vegetation and different roaming creatures. One such roaming creature are the Hoglins, though as of right now they don’t do much else than look cute.
Importantly, each new biome is packed with Netherite, the new material which is refined from Ancient Debris and found underground. It’s a powerful material that can be used to upgrade your diamond gear. Armor crafted of it, for example, grants you knockback resistance; tools made of it last longer and work faster than their diamond counterparts.
As for new blocks, there are plenty of new ones to experiment with. There are two new wood-like materials –Crimson Stems and Warped Stem Basalt blocks – that are found as pillars but can be placed in any direction. Other highlights include the aforementioned vegetation, Nether Sprouts, Crimson Roots and Warped Roots, as well as new ground surfaces like Crimson Nylium and Warped Nylium.
